Donald R. Simmons passed away on June 27, 2022, in Chandler, Arizona, after a lengthy illness. He is preceded in death by his parents Wilmur R. and Lois S. Simmons, his brother, Bruce, and son, Brian. 

He is survived by his son Stephen of Carmel and his wife C.J. and their children Ashley and Connor; his son Gregory of West Lafayette and his children Joel and Reva; his wife Jo A. Heide-Simmons of Chandler, Arizona, and children Craig Heide of Orange Beach, Alabama, his wife Kelly and sons Keaton and Camden; Jeffrey Heide of Long Beach, California; and Ashlyn Sandlin of Chandler, Arizona, and her husband Michael and children Logan and Lily.

Donald was born in Muncie, on October 23, 1937. He graduated from Rushville High School in 1956 and attended Ball State University in 1957 and 1958. He attended the ABA Consumer Lending School at the University of Oklahoma in 1974, and the Graduate School of Consumer Banking at the University of Virginia, graduating in 1978. Donald worked at Purdue National Bank/Bank One as vice president in charge of consumer lending until 1987 and at Lafayette Bank and Trust as vice president of consumer lending until his retirement in January 2000.  

During his career, Donald was a member of the ABA National Advisory Board for Consumer Lending in 1979, 1980, 1981, 1983, 1984, and 1985. He served as the secretary, vice president, and president of the Wabash Valley Consumer Bankers Association in 1979, 1980, and 1981. Donald served on the Indiana Bankers Association Lending Committee in 1991, 1992, and 1993, and the Consumer Credit Counseling Service Advisory Board in 1992. He served his community as a member of the South Side Community Center Board of Directors for two years and on various committees in the United Way and Lafayette Chamber of Commerce.

He and Jo enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing, golf, and traveling in their motor home.
