RICHMOND – The Rushville Lions’ boys golf season came to an end Monday at Richmond Elks Lodge and Country Club as the team was unable to crack the top three needed for advancement to regional. RCHS fought through a soggy course and an early afternoon shower to finish in fourth place among a dozen competing schools.

In addition, Tri High had two individuals (Parker Engle-82 and Evan Murphy-84) and Northeastern (Alex Beatty-83) the other in qualifying for the regional from a non-advancing team.

The host Red Devils took home the trophy, finishing with a team score of 328. The Connersville Spartans, paced by sectional champion and senior Jonah Graham (76), were runner-up with a 342. Union County, led by Cameron Woods’ 77, will also be making the trip to regional after shooting a 351. Cooper Kinney of Connersville came in third overall with a 78.

Jack Laker was the Lions’ pacesetter with a round of 89, going 45 across the front nine and 44 across the back. Sam Smith had the best front nine by shooting 43 and finished at 90 after completing the back. No. 1 golfer Caleb Jessup came in at 94 (47 splits) while Devin Richardson’s 111 gave Rushville its team score of 384. Cordell Fuller carded 113 as the Lions’ fifth golfer.

Franklin County came in fifth with 386, led by Adam Kelly’s 92. Hagerstown (387), Northeastern (397), Tri High (400), Cambridge City Lincoln (417), Centerville (438) and Union-Modoc (478) were other team results. Seton Catholic had an incomplete with only a pair of golfers present.
Rushville also placed 4th at the Union County Invitational held last Tuesday at Liberty Country Club, scoring 350. Richmond also won that tourney with a total of 317 and Connersville was next at 328. The UC Blue team came in third by shooting 334. Kinney won a playoff over Woods to determine medalist, as each finished with 76. Likewise for UC’s Luke Yamashiro, who broke a 78 tie with Richmond’s Alex Brown. Sam Reising of Richmond was next with 79.

Jake Carroll led the Lions with a card of 80; Smith and Jessup followed at 86 and 87, respectively. Laker toured the course in 97 and Fuller had 100.
The regional is Thursday at The Players Club in Muncie.
