On Sunday afternoon, Sept. 12, Rushville Township Volunteer Fire Department and Rushville City Fire Dept. were dispatched to a house fire with heavy black smoke and flames showing at 1:05 p.m.. Units requested mutual aid from Posey Twp Fire, Glenwood Fire and Manilla Fire departments.
 According to Phil Dearinger, “The fire spread quickly through the 1 story wood structure. Wind was to our disadvantage.” More than 25 firefighters were on scene assisting to contain the fire.

Occupants were able to exit without injury; however, the house, contents and one vehicle were a total loss.
As of Monday, the fire was still under investigation. In addition to the residence, one vehicle was a total loss and two vehicles received minor damage. The occupants of the residence were able to exit without injury.
